On the morning of January 22, 2024, an inmate at the Morgan County Jail experienced a medical emergency. Correction Officers and Medical staff responded and began CPR. EMS was notified and responded to the jail and took over care. The inmate was transported to the hospital where he died.

Sheriff Office and ALEA Investigators as well as Coroner Jeff Chunn were notified and have begun a death investigation. Next of kin has been notified.

The inmate, Jonathan Blake Bagwell, 42 of Anniston, was arrested on January 16, 2024, on a Parole/Probation Revocation Warrant for charges related to Sex Abuse of a child.
