Winter Weather Preperations

Sheriff Winter Weather Graphic

❄️ A Message from Sheriff Ron Puckett ❄️

We continue to prepare for winter weather that is expected to impact our area. Currently, if our luck continues, it looks like the worst of it may miss our area, but the threat of ice and freezing temps are still prevalent. Regardless, we are prepared for whatever may come.

We are actively monitoring this weather system and briefings from the National Weather Service in Huntsville while working closely with the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency, local first responders, and state partners to ensure we are prepared ahead of changing conditions. Our deputies and resources are ready to respond.

Please know, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no matter the weather.
As conditions evolve, we will continue to provide updates through our social media channels, including information on road conditions, hazardous travel areas, potential closures, and any urgent public safety alerts as we have done in previous events.

In the meantime, I encourage everyone to take a few simple but important steps to prepare:
  • Stay informed
  • Gather necessities ahead of time: food, water, blankets, and essential medications
  • Charge phones, flashlights, and battery packs in case of power outages
  • Fill up your gas tank before road conditions worsen
  • Stay informed through trusted local weather updates
  • Avoid unnecessary travel if roads become icy, especially bridges and overpasses
  • Check on elderly neighbors, friends, or family members who may need assistance
  • Bring pets indoors or ensure they have a warm, secure shelter
If we are impacted by ice or snow, please stay off the roads if you do not absolutely need to be on them. Winter weather can change quickly, and roadways may appear safe when they are not.

Morgan County has a long track record of being a community that helps our neighbors. Should we experience a major winter weather event, look out for one another.

As always, if you need us, we are here.
